Work starts on making oak finials for St Athernase

Work has started in the making of the oak finials for St Athernase church. We have a number of large seasoned oak logs in the yard which are over a 1 meter in diameter. Paul is beginning to process them down with a chainsaw to a size small enough to get them on to our workshop lathe.

Gosford Oak _ Replacement Oak Finial for 12th Century Church

Gosford oak feel privileged to have been  commissioned to make a set of replacement oak finials for St Athernase Church in Leuchars, Fife. St Athernase is currently undergoing extensive restoration over seen by Nicoll Russell Studios of Dundee and  Heath Architects of Haddington . The existing finials are mounted on a steel rod that penetrates the stone dome. We will be required to scale the tower to fit the newly crafted finials in a few weeks time. Lets hope we get some good weather.

Gosford oak website - LIVE

After weeks in the making Gosford Oak is online. Like many of the worlds makers and craft people the challenge of an online presence can seem overwhelming. We like to hide away amongst the woodshavings and tools of the workshop. However, what better way to get our work and message to the wider public. We hope that you like what we do and feel free to get in touch
